How To Find The Most Sturdy Shutter In Houston

August 08, 2016

One of our locations in Texas was recently reached by a previous customer. The customer had their house wiped out by a tornado earlier this year, but their Sunburst Polywood® plantation shutters held out.

The client’s home had to be completely rebuilt after the storm, but there were just a couple of slats broken on a single shutter panel on one side of their residence. Every one of the other Polywood shutters in the house were in perfect condition! The clients are now rebuilding their home, and once they finish, their local Sunburst store will revisit the home to install the very same shutters they purchased in their reconstructed home.

Hopefully, your shutters won’t need to survive a tornado. But there are a number of qualities to make sure of when looking for shutters in Houston that are durable and will look beautiful for a lifetime.

*Disclaimer: Sunburst Shutters doesn’t guarantee that their our products will withstand a tornado or other natural disasters, but this is just one instance of the durability and longevity of our Polywood shutters. Read our lifetime warranty.

Strong Material

The most important thing to be sure of when you want a resilient window treatment is the material it’s made from and the manner in which it’s built. For wood shutters, look for ones constructed from hardwood with a reputation for being sturdy, straight, and lightweight. Both furniture grade teak and basswood (the woods used in our Ovation® shutters) meet this criteria.

For engineered shutters, focus on those built from a solid polymer like our Polywood® shutters. Polywood shutters are sturdier than composite shutters, whose weaker composition is more susceptible to cosmetic defects. Polywood is also resistant to moisture, fire, and termites.

Expert Construction

A shutter’s build is an important piece of its resilience. Polywood shutters include tension control pins that let them keep the perfect amount of “give”. They also have stainless steel staples covered in epoxy which are incredibly hard to remove. Polywood’s core is solid, and its joints are secured and glued for tremendous sturdiness. Sunburst’s Ovation shutters are the only five star wood shutter in the world and are made with two different varieties of joints: dowel joints and mortise and tenon joints, which adds sturdiness. Sunburst is the sole place which makes shutters put together with extreme durability in mind.

Sunburst Shutters also takes special care in the measuring, construction, and installation processes so that you receive elegant custom shutters that fit your windows perfectly.

Color Steadfastness

It’s normal to want shutters that will be just as beautiful several years after installation. Some composite shutters tend to lose their color over the years. Sunburst’s Polywood shutters won’t ever fade or yellow, due to a protective coating that blocks UV rays that causes fading. Our entire line of shutters are simple to keep spotless by simply wiping with a cloth.

Protective Warranty

Warranties are an additional necessary component when choosing shutters and window coverings. When selecting a premier shutter, you want a warranty to guarantee your investment. Our Polywood shutters are backed by a lifetime warranty against any imperfections in materials, workmanship, paint finish, or installation. Sunburst’s Ovation shutters are backed by a warranty against any manufacturer imperfections.
